Walk No. 9

WALK NO. 9. HALFWAY HOUSE – HOLE BOTTOMS – SPRING LANE – ASPDEN FOLD.

This is about two and a half miles round and uses the routes of old byways for quite a distance. The manager of the Halfway House – or Speed the Plough, as it used to be called – has kindly agreed to walkers using the car park.

Walk No. 5

WALK NO.5. FIRWOOD LANE – BENNETT’S BANK – GREEN LANE – SHORROCK FOLD.

This route is about two and a quarter miles long, but it can be shortened to around one and a half miles by using Dark Lane. However, should you prefer to lengthen it, the distance is approximately doubled when linked up with walk No. 2. and the Roach Bridge – Cardwell’s Farm stretch of Green Lane is used. A car can be parked at the western extremity of Firwood Lane, (which was spelt ffarwood, in the past).

Walk No. 4

WALK NO. 4. SAMLESBURY HALL – ALUM SCAR – HOGHTON & SAMLESBURY BOTTOMS – NAB’S HEAD.

This ramble follows several old byways and is between six and seven miles long. It is easily accessible for those relying on public transport, as a regular bus service operates during the day between Preston and Blackburn.
